100 mile marathon to benefit Hearten House

Pledges are currently being received to sponsor an avid marathon-runner who is donating pledges to Hearten House. In a 100-mile marathon, taking place October 12th-13th, Daniel Martin plans to take to the trails of Chain O’ Lakes State Park to participate in the IT100 Mile event.

Martin says he’s a “born-again, fully surrendered disciple of Jesus Christ for more than 20 years.” This husband and father also is a the head coach of the Fort Wayne Guardians Girls Basketball program. His passion for running started in the 6th grade.

Martin ran cross-country in high school at Eastside (class of ‘85) and in college at IPFW (BS Secondary Education). He started doing Ultra-Marathons about 12 years ago.

“I've completed 32 mile events many times; 50 mile events a couple times including in the Big Horn Mountains of Montana and I've successfully completed 100 mile events twice - although the last time was almost 10 years ago,” said Martin. “I'm an old school believer in the biblical design of families and take that servant leadership role seriously. The Lord has given me a heart to help The Church serve and step into the gap and care for vulnerable children and women, many who have been let down by the failures of other men in their lives. I believe these are the modern day version of "the widows" the bible tells us to care for.”

Martin said, “I have a heart for biblical missions and some wise counsel I received was to avoid the ego trap of thinking in order to make significant Kingdom impact you need to start your own ministry and grow it - rather with discernment, look around and see where God is already moving and join Him in that. There are so many ministries out there, with discernment, find ones that are truly being led by the Holy Spirit rather than by "men" and partner with those. It doesn't take long to see that Hearten House is truly God's redeeming work being led by the Holy Spirit through the lives of obedient followers and therefore it is an honor and a privilege to use the physical and mental endurance He has blessed me with to play a tiny part in that Kingdom work. My goal is to raise a lot of money so that you can execute the expansion plans to serve more women, and to encourage the past, present and future women in the program that through God's Strength and Power we can overcome and persevere extreme earthly challenges - for the Hope that is before us.”
