‘One Night’ Raises More Than $35K
AUBURN — Hearten House, a local nonprofit, announced that its annual fundraiser ‘One Night’ held the evening of October 13th at The James Cultural Plaza in downtown Auburn, raised more than $33k. This event aimed to provide participants with a glimpse of what it feels like to be homeless and garnered remarkable support from the community.
"One Night" encouraged individuals to experience the challenges faced by those without shelter. Participants set up tents, boxes, or other makeshift "homes" for the night, coming together for an evening of worship featuring area church worship bands and musicians. Hearten House graduates, volunteers, and staff members shared testimonies and stories, fostering connections, and creating lasting memories.
Despite the rainy weather and cold conditions, the community showed support for Hearten House. Those who chose not to spend the night still visited the plaza to be a part of the event even if for just a few hours.
“We are so pleased with the event’s turn out.”, said Executive Director Marisa McKenzie, “‘One Night’ is not just about raising funds, but raising spirits, hopes, and making a difference in the Dekalb County community.”
Hearten House raised a total of $35,028. These funds will support Hearten House's mission of providing shelter, food, and assistance to those experiencing homelessness in the community as part of its resident recovery program.
“Hearten House extends its deepest gratitude to all sponsors, donors, and event attendees who contributed to the success of ‘One Night.’, said McKenzie. Their support is a testament to the compassion and kindness that resides within the community, and it demonstrates the profound impact that can be achieved when individuals come together for a common cause,” McKenzie said.
The amount of money raised highlights the power of unity and solidarity in making a difference in the lives of those less fortunate. Hearten House reaffirms its commitment to serving the homeless and vulnerable members of the community, and it is through events like ‘One Night’ that the organization can continue to fulfill its mission.
